Randomized trialPeaking taper
Strength-trained men completed a crossover trial in which two training blocks were each followed by a taper week with the same volume reduction but either raised or lowered intensity. The taper improved power in both conditions, with the higher-intensity taper tending to produce the more favourable strength and power changes.

Powerlifters were matched on relative strength and randomly assigned to an overreach week followed by either a one-week step taper or a three-week exponential taper. The step taper favoured skeletal muscle adaptations while the exponential taper appeared to favour neuromuscular performance.
