Well-trained men were randomly assigned to a split routine training each muscle once a week or a whole-body routine training each muscle five days a week, with volume matched. One-rep-max strength changes were the same, while the higher-frequency routine produced greater muscle thickness in the forearm flexors and vastus lateralis.
How Fibral applies it: Where the schedule allows it, spread a muscle's weekly volume over more sessions when size is the goal; strength does not care either way.

A systematic review and meta-analysis restricted to well-trained populations found no clear difference in maximal strength development between training frequencies over six to twelve weeks. The authors suggest volume can therefore be distributed across shorter, more frequent sessions rather than condensed into one or two.
