A controlled trial inserting a one-week deload at the midpoint of a nine-week supervised resistance-training program found the deload appeared to negatively influence measures of lower-body muscle strength, while leaving lower-body hypertrophy, power and local muscular endurance unaffected. A cross-sectional survey of 246 competitive strength and physique athletes found that every respondent deloaded within training, integrating a deload into the programme every 5.6 plus or minus 2.3 weeks, with a typical deload lasting 6.4 plus or minus 1.7 days. Deloads were pre-planned to manage energy and fatigue, implemented by reducing volume and load while leaving training frequency and exercise selection unchanged.
How Fibral applies it: Schedule a deload every 4 to 8 weeks - whole weeks bracketing the surveyed mean of 5.6 weeks and its 2.3-week standard deviation - cutting volume and load for roughly a week while keeping the same exercises and the same number of sessions. This is surveyed practice rather than a controlled trial, so the interval is advisory: deload earlier when fatigue accumulates and later when it does not. For a pure strength goal, curated-deload-week-trial removes the REQUIREMENT for a scheduled deload; this interval remains the landmark for placing one.
